TRAINING FOR OTHER PROFESSIONALS

Professionals in all fields interface with people with autism, but frequently they may not know it. Medical personnel, emergency providers, police officers and firefighters encounter and provide assistance to people with autism of all ages on a daily basis.  Many are not aware and are not able to identify the symptoms or characteristics of a person with autism.  And often they are not trained to support or assist a person with autism - especially in a time of need.  Autism organizations and service providers in Nebraska are prepared and capable of training professionals on autism.  They are autism experts and can train on identifying the signs of autism and how best to work with a person with autism in any type of situation.  Autism awareness, and supporting and working with people with autism is just one of the missions of autism service providers throughout the state.  Autism service providers are a great resource for educating and finding resources throughout the state that can provide assistance. Some of the services currently offered are:

Autism 911 strives to educate emergency personnel in Nebraska to work with individuals on the Autistic Spectrum, as well as other disabilities in an emergency situation. Too frequently children and adults with disabilities, as well as their families, can find themselves in an emergency situation. Autism 911's goal is to give Law Enforcement, Fire Fighters, EMT/EMS, and other emergency personnel the tools they need to deal with the situation safely and effectively.

Autism Action Partnership provides training for all types of professionals includng medical personnel and staff, emergency responders, teachers and para educators, and the general public. Autism Action Partnership can customize a training for a wide variety of audiences throughout the state of Nebraska.  Every year Autism Action Partnership hosts a conference on autism featuring national, regional and local subject matter experts on that address a wide range of issues on autism.   The conference is open to medical professionals, educators, other professionals and caregivers. 

Munroe-Meyer Institute Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders - University of Nebraska Medical Center is home to a wide variety of subject matter experts who are willing to speak to individuals and audiences. Topics include Social Skills, Medication Management, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), and much, much more.
